SYNOPSIS

Astrid and Nicole, best friends since forever, do everything together.

So Astrid is hurt when instead of signing up for the roller skating summer camp she’s excited about, Nicole picks ballet camp.

Astrid lies to mom that they are doing skating together, decides to do the new activity alone, and even makes a friend at camp, Zoey.

Zoey is offended by an unkind action of Astrid’s, and mom is furious to discover Astrid has been lying about Nicole.

To make matters worse, Astrid is not picked for her dream position in a big-deal live-audience event.

With a grand gesture to Zoey and a brave chat with Nicole (and thanks to mom’s support), she repairs both friendships.

All ends well and the new school year is sure to be great

We love

  • A perfect depiction of how tough it is to be in middle school – friendships and cliques, looks and self-esteem, failing and new endeavors…
  • Astrid is so inspiring even when she’s not “perfect” – a great example for any child looking to try unfamiliar activities and groups.
  • Gorgeous illustrations (as always)!
