SYNOPSIS

Little Janet is a red Smed, little Bill is a blue Smoo. And they must never ever play with each other.

But they meet, have so much fun and start secretly playing together whenever they can.

Years pass, romance ensues and when marriage is denied, the two lovebirds elope to another planet.

Worried sick, the Smed and Smoo families hop on a rocket together and conduct a yearlong search.

Adventure makes friends out of the Smeds and Smoos, and when they do find Janet and Bill they all celebrate their baby SmooSmed.

And they have so much fun together. And the baby is purple!

PERFECT AGE 3 – 7

We love

  • Truly, a masterclass in acceptance and learning to appreciate the “other”, even if you’re an old, old alien grandma/pa.
  • A kinder, happier – and much better illustrated – version of “Romeo and Juliet” 🙂
  • If you’ve said Smoo and Smed out loud at least once, you already know the made-up words are super fun to say, and you totally know what they mean 🙂
  • The book’s dedication: “To all the children of Europe.”! 💜

CONVERSATION STARTERS

  • What kinds of things did the Smeds do that scared the Smoos? And what Smoo habits and activities scared the Smeds?
  • Was it a good idea for Bill and Janet to sneak away from home?
  • What did the Smed and Smoo families learn about each other while searching from Janet and Bill?
  • Why is the SmooSmed baby purple??
